Conferences

Please make sure you sign up with your child's homeroom teacher. Mrs. Morand and I each have just enough time slots for our homeroom parents. Thank you so very much!

9/13 Updates

Mid-term grade reports are in the blue Friday Folders.  Please check these over carefully.  Many students seemed surprised by their grades.  That tells me they have not been keeping up with their grades on the student portal.  I passed out informational papers on how parents can access the parent  portal and how students can access the student portal.  Those informational flyers are also in the Friday Folders.

The Cognitive Abilities Test is Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.  Please make sure students sleep well this weekend and each night before the test.  A good healthy breakfast is also very important.  Please make sure students are here each day and arrive early enough so they are not stressed out prior to the test.  We will begin testing at 8:55 each morning.

Social Studies students should be working a little bit each day on their Causes of the Civil War flip book.

Tonight is a home game for the Lions!  Peachtree Ridge v. Duluth.  Kick-off is 7:30.  It should be a beautiful night to come out and enjoy some great family fun!

New Social Studies Group

Our first project is a Causes of the Civil War flip book.  It is due Monday, September 23.  I am passing out their rubrics today, even though we are only starting the Chapter today. I want to give them time to plan and think and gather materials.  I fully understand we haven't gone over the content yet, but it really is self explanatory.  We expect all projects to be very neat and organized.  We expect all projects to be in the student's own words.  No cutting and pasting from the internet is acceptable.  Thank you so much for your support.

Reading Logs

7 out of 25 students did not return reading logs this morning.  This is not an optional activity.  Please make sure your child is reading a minimum of 20 minutes per night.  If you have lost your reading log you can sign off on a sheet of notebook paper.  Thank you so much for your support! I truly appreciate it!

9/5 More Notes

Please make sure you return reading logs on Monday morning.  This is a part of each student's reading participation grade.

Another huge thank you to two more parents who went out of their way to make my birthday special...Beth Ann Gazzo and Carolyn Johnson!  Thank you so much for organizing my beautiful bouquets and my big fruit bowl. I am overwhelmed with special students and parents!  Thank you all!  Enjoy the weekend!

ELA Grades

I have been posting grades for ELA, and for many children, they could be better.

DGP:  Daily Grammar Practice:  Each day we practice grammar.  Each week we analyze one sentence. We just completed our fourth week of this.  Each Friday we analyze a sentence almost exactly like the one we have been studying all week.  We take a grade on Friday's assignment.  There are no surprises!  If your child is not succeeding in DGP, please make sure they are studying every night.  They have a DGP composition notebook with everything they need inside.  If they review nightly, they should do well on Friday.  I have only recorded two of the four assignments because I felt like they are still getting used to the activity.

Grammar:  Your child has a grammar workbook.  If you feel they are not succeeding in grammar, make sure they are bringing home their workbook and studying nightly.

It is important that they learn to study nightly even though they don't have assigned homework.  Many of them still think they only need to study if there is a paper to be turned in the next day.  Please help them learn to study nightly.  Thank you so much for your support!
