Updates 10/24
Social Studies Invention flip books are due tomorrow! We will review chapters 3 and 4 on Monday. Test 3/4 combined is Tuesday. We had a great conversation today about immigrants, Ellis Island and Angel Island. Please talk to your child about their family tree and if any of their ancestors can be traced back to Ellis or Angel Island. They are fascinated by all of this!
Most students are done with their Halloween/Fall Narrative. They will be typing them tomorrow. Ask your child to tell you about their story. Next week we will be having a formal writing assessment that will be scored by UGA. We are not sure the date, but will let you know. Their writing is really improving!
There will be a test on Parts of Speech on Wednesday, October 30.
I will not be here tomorrow, so Choice Cards will not be coming home. Friday Folders will be handed out, but choice cards will go home on Monday. Thank you for your understanding.

This warms my heart!
Here's One boy reading aloud to two others. They are reading a book about Pioneer life. This was their idea! This is how they chose to spend their free time! So awesome!
Updates
Friday folders are packed! Please sign the report card envelope and return to school Monday. We have started a new choice card. Please check over it and sign. All their work from SS and science from the 1st nine weeks is either in their book bag or in their Friday. You might want to keep it as a review guide for the CRCT.
Also in the folders is a letter regarding the ITBS test which is next week. Please make sure your child is well rested and eats a good breakfast this week.
SS students have a flip book due Friday 10/25. It is on an invention from the 1800s or early 1900s. They have their blank flip books and rubrics.
Have a great weekend!
Science Fair Update
We made our notebooks on Thursday. We used sticky notes for tab dividers, but you will probably want to get a more permanent adhesive tab. Students should be choosing a couple topics that interest them, writing a few testable questions, and working on a hypothesis. See you all again Thursday!

10/9 Updates
Homework: Grammar worksheet 486
Social Studies: no homework
Behavior Update: I wanted to make you aware that our class behavior is getting worse and worse in the lunchroom and at specials. Today an administrator described their behavior as a "train wreck." As a result, I had the whole class walk laps on the playground during recess for about 15 minutes. Many were unhappy about this, as would be expected. Several were upset that the class was being punished as a whole. I have no choice but to have the entire class suffer a consequence when the entire class is reprimanded as they were today. I have been signing choice cards, but I will have to start signing them much more often now. The new choice card for the new 9 week period will begin Tuesday 10/15, so all will have a clean slate that day. Each 9 week period Mrs. Morand and I will be rewarding students with 3 checks or fewer with a movie party. The 1st 9 week reward party is Tuesday 10/15.
Please reinforce to your students the importance of self control and appropriate behavior.
I certainly appreciate the wonderful behavior so many of my students exhibit on a daily basis. I know this doesn't apply to everyone, but we function as a class. We will either sink together or sail together! I'm counting on sailing!!!
