Homework: SS: Quick Studies 1 and 2. Study for test tomorrow on chapters 11 and 12.
Both homerooms were given a new SS project today. They were given a rubric and small flip book covering several economics topics. The flip book is due 4/14. If you are going out of town over Spring Break please complete it this week.
I still need paper field trips forms from several students. Please send them in ASAP.
Thursday night is International Night. The school is going to look amazing! Don't miss it!

Friday Folders
There are two very important things to look for in the Friday Folders.
First, there is a packet of readings and responses called "How to be a Smart Risk-Taker." Please go through this packet with your child. This packet is almost exactly what the GMAS reading sections will look like. There are two short responses which have grades attached. There is also one long essay which has a grading rubric attached to the back of the packet. Please talk over your child's responses with them. Most importantly, please make sure your child brings the packet BACK TO SCHOOL on Monday so that I may review it with them also. A few of the packets indicate that I will be having lunch with your students to go over the packet in greater depth.
Secondly, there is a permission slip for the novel The Book Thief. That will be our next novel study. Please return that on Monday also.

These kids are really interested in our economies and different economies from around the world, Talk with them about it; you might be surprised how many savvy little business people we have!

International Night!
Parents, Burnette is excited to host our first International and Fine Arts Night here at Burnette Elementary. Please join us on April 2, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 for music, art, food, demonstrations, activities, and cultural displays from around the world. The night will begin in the cafeteria with a presentation of music from around the world presented by our 5th grade chorus. The fun continues as families pick up their passports and travel from region to region and experience the art, food and hands-on activities of China, India, Mexico, United States of America, Korea, Japan and Africa. Your family will leave with a passport full of stamps from regions around the world and many fun memories.
Recently, your child(ren) brought home an activity that will be on display for our International and Fine Arts night. Please assist your child(ren) in decorating the dolls to represent and celebrate your family's heritage. The decorated dolls will be showcased throughout the school during our upcoming International and Fine Arts night. Please return the dolls to your student(s) classroom teacher by Wednesday, March 25,2015. Be sure to write your child's name, teacher, grade, and country on the back of their doll. Have fun and be creative!

Social Studies Test in May!
All fifth graders will need to be able to label a blank map with the names of all 50 states. Abbreviations will be fine! They will also be expected to match all states to their capitals. Please start practicing! There are so many apps out there that are fun and effective! Many are free, so get some today!

You will not want to miss it! Each student has a blank paper person in their book bag. Attached is a yellow paper with directions. We are asking each Burnette student to decorate/dress their person in the clothing representative of their heritage. We are blessed with such diversity here at Burnette. It will be wonderful to see a display of child-made representations of all our cultures.
