5th Grade AC ELA

Homework:  We began a new writing assignment on Thursday, our first day back.  The students are writing an informational essay about the persuasive writers they have studied this year in Social Studies.  They have been doing research and today they started a two box graphic organizer for their writing.  They must finish the graphic organizer tonight.  Please ask them about this assignment.  They can continue to gather information by doing on line research or by using their SS book.

FAT-P:  Form:  essay, Audience: the reader/everyone, Topic:  persuasive writers in history, Purpose:  to inform.

Prompt:   The works of many writers have greatly impacted the world and indeed changed the world.  Write an information essay about these writers.  Be sure to discuss what caused them to write their works, and what the effects were of their writings.

Writers they may be writing about:  H.B.Stowe, John Muir, Upton Sinclair, Jacob Riis, Ida Wells-Barnett, Willa Cather, Booker T. Washington, etc.

They will begin rough drafts on Tuesday, January 8.  Final copies are due Friday at the end of class.
I am consistently amazed at what talented writers these children are becoming!
